D. Nicky Fahrizal is a researcher at the Department of Politics and Social Change. He joined CSIS Jakarta in 2017. 

As a researcher, he has a background in law studies obtained from the Parahyangan Catholic University and a master's degree from the University of Indonesia. In addition to law studies, he has an experience in strategic studies, which he acquired from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom. 

Departing from his background, he focuses in his research areas on constitutional law and political jurisprudence. In addition to this distinction, he discusses issues of political security, insurgency and counter-insurgency, and national security law.
