Democracy and electoral politics
Nico Harjanto is a researcher in the Department of Politics and Social Change at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Jakarta, Indonesia. His activities include writing articles and opinions in several newspapers and giving presentations in various short-courses and workshops.
Nico Harjanto received his Sarjana Ilmu Politik (Bachelor in Political Science) at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta in 1996. His thesis was titled “The Political Development Thoughts of Lucian W. Pye: An Analysis.” In the mid-1996 he joined CSIS as a research assistant.
In 2000, he went to the United Kingdom as a British Chevening Award recipient for a short course on democratic processes. He continued his post-graduate study in the Department of Political Science at Ohio University, Athens, USA in 2001, and received his Master of Arts degree in Political Science in 2003. His master thesis entitled “Islam and Liberalism in Contemporary Indonesia: The Political Ideas of Jaringan Islam Liberal (the Liberal Islam Network). Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in political science at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, USA. |
