Research interests
comparative politics, non-traditional security issues in Southeast Asia, Indonesia's foreign policy, conflict studies

Philips J. Vermonte joined CSIS as a researcher at the Department of International Relations Jakarta in 2001. He has been an active participant of Council for Security Cooperation in Asia Pacific (CSCAP) Working Group on Transnational Crime. He is also a member of Working Group on Papua, a forum established by several non-governmental organizations in Indonesia, including, among others, Kontras, YLBHI, and ELSAM.

Philips Vermonte received his Master of Arts degree in international studies from Department of Politics, the University of Adelaide, Australia, in 2001, funded by the Ausaid scholarship. The title of his thesis was Democratisation and Foreign Policy: the Case of Indonesia. He is currently a Ph.D student (Fulbright grantee) at Department of Political Science, Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, USA
