Improving the market access of Indonesia’s exports to the European Union

The aim of this action is to support Indonesia in promoting its exports, particularly through improving market access to the European countries. The target groups of this action are (1) Indonesian government trade-related officials, Ministry of Trade and Ministry of Foreign Affairs in particular, (2) Private sectors, particularly exporters and producers, as well as business associations and members of Chamber of Commerce; and (3) Members of general public, including academics, and other stakeholders. This project consists of three core and interlinked activities: study, training and seminars. This project will also prepare the groundwork for the establishment of a future Indonesian Trade Research Group.

Strengthening financial markets in Asia: Indonesia country study

The study analyses the evolution of the financial and capital markets in Indonesia following the crisis.

The study examines the structural transformation during the post-crisis periods and explores the growing challenges to the sectors. Based on the results, the overall study develops strategies and action plans to promote regional integration and cooperation, with the objective of strengthening and consolidating these financial markets, to get the most benefit from recent developments in the new international economy.

Financial centers in East Asia: An Indonesian perspective

The study assesses how financial intermediary functions are carried out in Indonesia. It analyses the current status of financial markets in Indonesia and their interconnectivity with other markets in the region.

This study is part of acomprehensive study, A New Financial Market Structure for East Asia: How to Recycle the Regional Savings , which is managed and coordinated by the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP).

Economic and industrial development in Asia: The case of Indonesia's textiles and garment industry

The study analyses the development of the textiles and garments industries from both the supply and demand sides. In particular, it looks at strategies for improving the competitiveness of the textiles and garments sectors in Indonesia, specifically by focusing on the implications of Chinas increasing openness and competition.

Multilateral arrangements on agriculture, labour and environment: Indonesia's perspective

Part of a larger study (covering Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines) assessing the possibility of regional cooperation towards a multilateral arrangement in agriculture, labour and the environment.

This study covers four South-East Asian countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. The Indonesian case study aims at mapping Indonesia's current position in multilateral arrangements with regard to these issues. It also outlines a possible position for Indonesia in the coming round of multilateral trade negotiations and proposes how regional cooperation would enhance Indonesias bargaining position in a wider context such as the WTO.

The study is coordinated by the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research and funded by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Japan.

Governance and Asia’s corporations after the crisis

Coordination of research on building better public and corporate governance in the Southeast Asian countries in crisis.

The objective of the research is to analyse policy, institutional and other failures related to public and corporate governance which led to the current economic crisis, and to provide a framework that can be used to develop better public and corporate governance in the future. The study covers the governance in three major sectors: corporation, financial and state sectors.

Survey of macroeconomic development

Ongoing research on Indonesias recent macroeconomic development, presenting the analysis of macroeconomic developments and identifying critical issues for the economy in the near future.

The study provides in-depth economic analysis and predictions based on sound economic theory and up-to-date and reliable economic data on various strategic economic indicators. The results provide an independent opinion and critical assessment of recent economic condition including the progress of the economic reforms during the crisis.

Economic crisis, economic reform and the forestry sector in Indonesia

At a macroeconomic level, the research investigates the inter-linkages between adjustment and stabilization on the one hand and environmental policies on the other. At the sectoral level, the study analyses the changing institutional and regulatory context within which environmental management in the forestry sector occurs. At the field level, the study includes field surveys to assess the impact of the crisis on land-clearing decisions of small farmers and commercial concession holders.

Research was supported by the MacArthur Foundation (Grant #9855536), and was done in collaboration with the Centre for International Forestry Research(CIFOR).

Macroeconometric modelling

The project is an internal CSIS effort to develop a macroeconometric model using quarterly data.

The model links the real and monetary sectors of the economy, and attempts at quarterly predictions of macroeconomic indicators.

ASEAN Programme for Regional Integration Support (APRIS)

APRIS is a European Union (EU)-funded project to assist the development of a strategic approach towards deepening regional integration in ASEAN.

The main focus of the three-year project is to assist the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) on issues of strategic planning, sector policy development and institution building to smooth this integration process, making use of the EU experience and know how.

CSIS is the Asian counterpart of the APRIS consortium. Meanwhile, the European members of the consortium are IBF Crown and CEPS.
